The county rose to 29th from 37th this year among Alabama’s 67 counties in a ranking that aims to measure health.

Tucker Hall worked up a sweat as he moved his legs back and forth on an exercise machine at the YMCA in Oxford on Saturday. Though Hall joined the Y months ago, his surroundings were different — a new Oxford location that opened at the start of the month.

Shane Ruffin is the CEO of the YMCA of Calhoun County. Having worked for the YMCA since college, Ruffin understands the importance of reinvesting time and money into the community. The YMCA is currently in the middle of its annual fundraising campaign.

Sharon Jones had always wanted to join her children and grandchildren whenever they played in the pool, but the Anniston woman couldn’t swim. Then last year, the 57-year-old joined the YMCA of Calhoun County.
